Despite the A470 trunk road running through the town, which incidentally came well after the carnival started in 1904, we still manage to put on some amazing events which may seem bizarre to the casual passer-by.

Rhayader Carnival Week offers four world championship events as well as a chance to climb Rhayader’s highest mountain in the fell run. If sport is not your thing then just grab a pint, take a seat and watch, or maybe go to one of our other events like the Vintage Show, The Grand Quiz or the Gro Gathering.

The week’s highlight event is of course the Carnival Day, with Queens from 5 local towns and a large entry of floats and walkers taking part in the parade. After the parade, everyone heads down to the park to crown the Rhayader Carnival Queen and enjoy the fete atmosphere.
